What's in Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion?

I've been using Aveeno body lotion for perhaps 3-4 years already. The texture is very gentle and it's not very expensive. However I've start to see their bottle size is getting smaller and smaller, from 600ml to 532ml (I think they changed it sometime this year or the end of last year), with the price remain the same. this kind of sale tactic is becoming more a trend now. Anyhow, today I just want to write a little review about the lotion I'm currently using.

Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion
Size: 600ml (got this in Costco back 2018?!) , (Wal-Mart is 532 ml)
Made in: ....................I guess in Canada?! didn't mention
Import by Johnson & Johnson. Markham, Canada.
Cost: Wal-Mart $11.47cdn, Shoppers Drug Mart $12.49cdn, I usually wait on sale for $9.99cdn.

On the label, what they sell:

  • with natural colloidal oatmeal. Clinically Proven to relieve dry skin, moisturizes for 24 hours, fragrance free
  • This dermatologist recommended unique oatmeal formula locks in moisture to help prevent and protect dry skin, providing temporary relief of the scaling and chapping associated with dry skin. The naturally nourishing, non-greasy lotion absorbs quickly, is non-comedogenic (won't clog pores), and contains no added fragrance. Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion moisturizes for 24 hours and leaves your skin soft, smooth, and naturally healthy-looking

Ingredients: (bracket is what I know, what I think, and what I found base on research online)

  1. Water (eau) (H2O hello!)
  2. Glycerin (can be natural coming from animal fats and plant oils like shea butter or coconut oil.)
  3. Distearyldimonium chloride (quaternary ammonium salt, commonly use for disinfect, for cleaning, **why is there a cleaning/disinfect chemical in lotion? need further research on this)
  4. Petrolatum (like commonly we know Vaseline; it's crude oil, it has trace to consider to the cause of cancer, but cosmetic always classified as safe)
  5. Isopropyl palmitate (could be synthetic or natural made from palm oil and/or animal fats, act as lubricants on the skin's surface.)
  6. Cetyl alcohol (alcohol that is derived from a fat, such as a vegetable oil like Coconut Oil or Palm Oil; help soften and smooth the skin and hair and to thicken)
  7. Dimethicone (silicone; it improve texture of the skin product *no, not your skin*; it's not a natural ingredient, it's not biodegradable; some claim alternative for this are sunflower oil, shea butter, and jojoba oil; research in general didn't say it's harmful, they are FDA approval, but who knows this may change in the future)
  8. Avena sativa (oat) kernel flour (things they are highly advertise for; it's oat basically= gluten free; it's a plant commonly grow in northern Europe and North America; It is commonly use for cosmetic and personal care; it used to relieve minor skin irritation and itching due to poison ivy or insect bites; it improve blood flow, boost brain function, improve mood...personally I think that's only if you put oat in your mouth.)
  9. Benzyl alcohol (it's aromatic alcohol, natural fragrance that gives sweet scent; does not have any skin benefits, it stabilize the formula; it's alternative for parabens preservative)
  10. Sodium chloride (salt)

❗ = not natural, chemical, and/or may not be safe.

Does it Do the Job base on the label?
For this question, it is a yes and no.
Yes, it does relieve my dry skin.
Yes, it's not greasy and it does absorb quickly.
No, it doesn't last 24 hours, I would say 8 hours to half a day, which is not too bad for me already.

What I think: no I'm not an expert, and I'm not a cosmetology. I am just a normal consumer who's curious about the product, so knowing all these ingredients can put a determination if I think it's good or bad for me. Also there are many more questions that I don't know about this product, such as the percentage of each ingredients they had put in this bottle, and the source of these ingredients (like where are they exactly come from). However, in the meantime, knowing their general ingredients by researching them online, it reassure me that I am not putting too much harmful chemicals on my body.

What do you guys think? Do you know any more information about this brand and the products? I love to know about it.
